Hi!
Houdini 17.5 and 17.0
I have a file that was created on a different machine in 17.0.
There was a background image for the camera view set in the display options. This image is not available on the new machine (houdini 17.5). So it dialogues me with a message every time I render a cam view.
Tried to delete the referenced image but the field is greyed out. Can't make changes. I imported the image already but the path doesn't seem to fit. (even if it shows the same letters in the name)
Reopened the file on the old machine and it's greyed out there as well.
Any hint's if this is a bug or my fault?
Thanks !

Could someone elaborate a bit on the topic head line, please?
For some other issue I'm looking all over a windows10 system to find the houdini.env file on a houdini 17.0.325
I can't seem to find it.
EDIT: Nevermind. Found it.
For those following the Houdini Website:
It's not as they claim on %HOME%/houdiniX.X/houdini.env but on %HOME/documents/houdiniX.X/houdini.env

For me (on Sierra running the latest Houdini Indie Version) all the above doesn't work.
Render attempts end in getting stuck on “Generating Scene…” and a exit code “3”.

… well, I was a bit bugged when I found out that there wasn't a chance to “type” a @ on a german keyboard on OSX. OK, things happen.
But I keep running into stupid problems with the license server. Everytime I change networks - and that happens a lot because I'm travelling - I need to refresh to a local Server.
But what's worst: After a night of sleep I thought I might wake up to a rendered file. I didn't because of a network connection problem.
Isn't there a way to NOT have a permanent internet connection ??
This is a (Yes I know - a very limited commercial) production computer that actually shouldn't go online anyway.

I guess, this has been asked a lot I can't seem to find anything.
Is there a way I can use my files I did during learning with apprentice (then .hipnc ones) in Indie to do the rendering in HD?
I know that there might be reasons why you wouldn't want companies using several NC-Versions and just one renderer. But all that work … hm. Sad. And a little late to find out.
Thanks for any hints.
(Tried copy-pasting from one instance (Appr.) to the other (Indie), but didn't work.)

Sorry for crossposting - but:
Is it possible to keyframe a flip's viscosity? (Or in any way change the value during a simulation without setting a by age or so at the beginning.)?
I can alt click and ad keys, that's no problem. But there is no reaction whatsoever in the fluids behaviour.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread with a stupid - nevertheless unanswered question - …
Looking at the hip provided (Thanks a lot!) there doesn't seem to be a way to keyframe viscosity or influence it after the simulation started.(?)
I would like to “melt” something after it became “frozen”. I guess you could do it with a time based viscosity attribute. But in my case I would like to have it change on impact (from a different volume).
Any chance the particle viscosity can be changed by keyframe or a intruding volume during a running simulation?
Thanks for any help and sorry for interrupting this thread - but it seemed the only one close to covering the issue.

Hi, I'm going to warm this up again.
I also seem to have problems getting the otl to work.
Any chance you integrate that into a hip?
Greeting and thanks!

I'm reeeeealy sorry for spamming. But as H13 just seems to have changed all the FLIP and POP related things, I'm pretty much lost with all these outdated tutorials that handle Particles in 12.5
I need “rain drops” to collide with a fluid surface and cause ripples.
I'm sure there must be a way to emit drops of a fluid into another fluid.
Or, even worse, have simple particles collide with a FLIP.
But everytime I try to node a fluid and a particle system together it goes “Neeerp” and as thesy are both being simulated there just doesn't seem to be a way of them to interact.
So, to make a long story short: How do You guys make rain that causes ripples on a fluid surface?

Hi there again.
Is there a maximium size for a flipfluid tank?
When I try to drive waves inside a FLIP using Velocity from a Grid-OceanEvaluate-OceanSpectrum grid inside the fluid that is bigger than 30units I get this strange cross like displacement artifact.
Tried many different noises and resolutions. I just won't go away.
Any idea?
(Forces in the hipnc are far to strong, I know, just wanted to cause a quick effect.)

Thanks for all the help on this subject.
I have moved on a bit.
The questions about whitewater are still open but not that urgent any more.
Less particles and avoiding the shelf Ocean made things a bit less “crashy”.

Good afternoon.
Let me add another problem I have (assuming I try to solve my task using the shelf “Ocean Waves”).
From time to time the Interior of the fluid seem to come above the surface. causing atrifacts. It seems to me that this ist where there should be a lot of foam.
Is the sitting bug inside Houdini or in front of my computer?

I'm very sorry.
(The frustration level just got raised a little again.)
I wanted to check the file before I upload it.
I think I turned off the foam bubbles and spray to check things before the file last crashed. So maybe those are turned off.
I tried to put things where they actually have to be but houdini just didn't let me do anything. Not even the autoupdate could have been turned off due to some cooking process that just wouldn't stop.
Around frame 170 there should be the splash.
It's a bit embarrassing and I might have to re-register under a new name after this. But this is the main file I have been struggeling with.
I changed the scaling of the whitewater particles a little, put in some friction and viscosity into the main liquid and reduced the rendered items to whitewater, surface and liquid.

Hey Marty, thanks for Your help!
(Went to Your site to see the most impressive stuff You do. It's an honor to receive help like Your's.)
I'm trying to upload some HIP(NC)s.
One is the test setup I did to find out if Houdini would do the job for me. Water needs to burst in through a door. So there is a liquid, a ramp, some door like arrangement of three blocks I can shift around to test sizes, and a wide open bounding box that allows the water to “spread into the room”.
What comes out is a lot of mist around some formed water. What I wanted was a lot of foamy water, a little spray and little to no mist at all.
I was wondering, if it was ever possible to achieve this using the shelf whitewater. I'm not expecting this: https://vimeo.com/67440849 [vimeo.com]
But somehow a litte bubbles inside the water that make it white, some foam on the surface…
Or don't I do this using whitewater but some velocity/curve-related color ramp on the liquid Material?
Unfortunately right now it takes ages to open (I'd like to check before I present my messed up toys to the big guys.
So I'll first upload the last Render I did to show some movement on my side of the world.

Well, right now Houdini is breaking up every three minutes. Seems that some cache, preferences or whatever got corrupted.
So all I can offer is the last render where the particle separation of the fluid was still at 0.1. It still doesn't look like foam to me, but I'm pretty sure the problem sits in front of the computer having a headache. ;[
This is the whitewater of a shelf Wave tank with nothing changed but the wind speed and the chop cranked up.
Any help - anyways - is very much appreciated.
(I'm not posting the hip right now as don't know if it wouldn't ruin somebody else's system.)
