2024-03-22T08:42:43+00:00iwHiteRabbiT417307I'm still trying to contact SideFX regarding Houdini.FairMarket.Land [houdini.fairmarket.land].
Again, if anyone knows who I'm supposed to reach out, please DM me!
Have a nice day, cheers!

2024-03-15T22:59:52+00:00cushwa416430Orbolt is a horrible and frustrating user experience. It reflects badly on SideFX. A new comer to Houdini software will assume (as I did) that it was maintained and endorsed by SideFX. I guess this is not the case but it is still part of the asset library which sure looks like it is part of the Houdini software. This needs to change as it is very confusing to new users.

Ruler tool HDA
2024-01-24T13:53:50+00:00fr_3D411049In the meantime, it seems there is a change in how the rounding is handled in the Font SOP. I made a new tool to fix this and added some more input options for Unreal Engine. You can download the asset here: FF Ruler Tool 1.1 [www.sidefx.com]

Invalid License signature file from Orbolt
2023-10-18T01:01:52+00:00SyrDoN403511I know the solution. When it is a new installation (fresh install of windows, etc)
Go to orbolt.com and login. I logged in as FB. Yours might be different.
once logged in on the web page. go to your downloads of assets you have purchased.

Choose your asset and hover over the highest level you purchased or downloaded (just makes sense).
Choose "launch in houdini".

it is possible you have to set the license server to use sidefx.com. not clear on that.
That is how my license is.

I read somewhere that this is something you may have to do. I am good with that.

I hope this helps.

Orbolt Login problems using FB credentials inside Houdini
2023-10-09T12:13:58+00:00j.king402849Purchased a tool (otl) that requires licensing. I signed up for Orbolt many moons ago using Facebook and so made my purchase using the same login method in my chrome browser.

open up Houdini to log into Orbolt so i can sync and the facebook login method seems to be broken. i get ' Qt Error: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'accessToken' of null' error.

The real kicker is you dont seem to be able to transfer accounts so ive no way of moving my purchases over to a non facebook registered login.

i have tried manually downloading the asset, but when i try to import a digital asset the otl wont install because it requires the license... which... i cant sync to because i cant login and if i try and login using the asset browser sync option that launches chrome, it just hangs on Waiting for server to respond, even though the browser tells me Login confirmed

You will now be sent back to Houdini.

is there any work around to this or are my orbolt purchases inaccessible?

2023-07-19T14:31:22+00:00hMonkey397086
MattPuchala
I also think curation is key. I want to be able to find the best tools as fast as possible and when I download them I can trust, with a good amount of certainty, it will do what’s advertised if its a "featured" tool. Along with the obvious something that prevents people from positing duplicate tools. There needs to be some kind of screening process.

There also needs to be a way to communicate if there is a tool SideFX or the community has collectively decided is worthy of being recognized. If I saw cool stuff and knew I could readily download it I would. Even things like facebook posts about great new tools would be good the same way SideFX posts about exceptional work every one and a while.

I’m not sure if SideFX could commit to there being an “Orbolt Curation Team” that does this kind of stuff but its just a thought.

Random other ideas would be easy ways to get in touch with the developer, maybe like a mini form on the tool’s page where people can comment or seek advice. For developers to easily be able to get in touch with their users when they have updates or bug fixes. Rating system for tools. Being able to type up wiki style docs for your tools if its a suite of tools. Opt in usage statistics so you as a developer can know what tools you have are popular / worthy of continuing to work on, etc.

Not sure how many indie plug-in developers are out there, but I would like it if there was a way to have orbolt work with HDAs and plug-ins then obviously installs all the files in the right place so its wicked easy to get started. One issue I have is people not understanding where to install plug-in files. Also, an API to connect to the orbolt license server through C++.

Finally, about orbolt as brand. Maybe a complete rebrand is in order. Especially when people's mind's jump directly to how bad the current platform is upon hearing the name.

vfxman222
10000% agree. A completely new marketplace rebuild is needed. My current experience when launching FFX Collection was an absolute debacle. Gumroad is the best distribution platform (IMO at the moment) for stuff like this. Plus allows for setting up discounts, giveaways, and sales occasionally.

This would be a good start, here’s my take on how orbolt should be "upgraded", it’s not completley resolved, and some areas are a bit too much… Anyway let me know what you think.

So licensing can carry through and break HDA. This happened with FFX Collection as the Python files I built apparently kept the Indie licensing. I was unaware of this until Commercial users complained about session downgrades they were experiencing. Only solution (after weeks of no fix from Side Fx. Devs are aware of issue though) was for me to completely rebuild the HDA in a Commercial FX license to fix the issue.

There is inconsistent information when uploading versus FAQ (image size recommendations differ).

Broken markup language in HDA description area (randomly bold or italic markup characters bleed through to the final post). Hello Orbolt... is anybody there?
2023-03-30T22:30:07+00:00DarrynRogers389090I am trying to get onto Orbolt to download the "Houdini 2 AE" asset. I have tried logging in with my SideFX account and get an error message "Open ID failed, disabled account". I have tried creating a new Orbolt account and I don't receive the confirmation email during the email registration process. I have tried contacting Orbolt support and I have gotten no response. Nothing in my spam folder... Is Orbolt still alive?

2022-12-23T16:51:11+00:00Mike_A379614I really hope SideFX takes action on these suggestions. Applying skills and resources to these 'customer interface' matters is just as important as having brilliant minds dealing with the software development.

As a relatively new user myself - six months or so - I was disappointed to see the state of the Orbolt store. Frankly it looks like it was built in 1995, and it does SideFX / Houdini no favours at all. I'd actually consider it 'negative advertising'.

And while I don't want to knock this thread off topic: a similar matter is the 'Gallery'. IMO that should be a showcase of excellence - not just a 95 page free for all. As a new, or potential, user I would expect to go there and be blown away by what is possible. Yes, there is some great work in there, but I don't want to see 'my first RBD sim of a falling pighead'. Some serious curation needed IMHO.
