We recently introduced a new algorithm to render Houdini Ocean. We use a novel texture format that is able to store all the necessary detail of the ocean SOP while taking very little disk storage.
* It works by exporting the ocean “textures” from Houdini (Using a special Ocean export ROP) and then rendering that using the DlOceanDisplacement shader.
* It allows you to render ocean in any DCC (Maya, Katana, Houdini, Karma, Gaffer).
* Solves performance and quality issues. It is super fast and has super sharp displacement rates (uses 3Delight displacement).
* Works very well with 3Delight Cloud.
