I just installed Houdini 10 apprentice on ubuntu 9.04 and I am having problems with my display. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like
Pretty messed up huh? Anyway, I am VERY new to Linux and I am still getting things sorted out.
Compiz is off and my wacom tablet is unplugged.
Video Driver: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

I have downloaded the I have no idea how to driver package from intel but I have no idea how to install it. The web site said to “Please download the README.TXT, as it is not included in the package” but there is no link to that file. Here is the link to the tarball

Hmm … I'm not sure if anyone's tried the Intel video card OpenGL drivers on Linux. I just know that plain old Mesa GL drivers seem to work in Ubuntu 8.04 under VirtualBox.

I tried following the directions for installing the driver software but I was having a bit of trouble. The directions say to navigate to tar the package, navigate to the directory where the files get unpacked to and use the commands; compile and then make. I looked in the main folder of the package and there are no make or compile files (I think you need those to do those operations).

I found the address to the public mesa repository:
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/mesa

When I installed some software from a repository one time I used the “git” thing but I completely forgot how to do it again. When I did it before I used two “addresses”, an http address and a key to enable my computer to access the repository.
Could someone tell me how to do this? I promise I will write the instructions down so's I don't have to ask again.

I just installed the mesa drivers but that didn't help
