Rising Sun Pictures is collaborating with one of South Australia’s leading Universities, The University of South Australia (UniSA), to give students of UniSA‘s Bachelor of Visual Effects program a rare opportunity to learn from the best.

The Bachelor of Visual Effects at UniSA is one of the only degree programs that embeds visual effects software such as Houdini in its teaching and thanks to this important collaboration with Rising Sun Pictures, students have the chance to learn how industry-standard tools are used to their maximum potential in the workplace.

UniSA and RSP: VFX Project: Dynamic Effects and Lighting (delivered as part of the Bachelor of Visual Effects)

Students undertaking the Visual Effects Project: Dynamic Effects and Lighting course will experience an immersive full-semester project at Rising Sun Pictures in their studio environment. Students completing this course will gain a developed understanding of working within the dynamic effects pipeline and will gain expertise with key digital asset development techniques in order to deliver a high quality, finished product for inclusion in their showreels. Through this process, students will experience simulated production practices including participating in project progress reports and management of client and supervisor requirements.

Course content

This course familiarises students with professional practice in the visual effects industry, and provides the theory, skills and techniques to produce an industry-standard dynamic effects shot. Student will develop expertise with key digital asset development techniques including SOP, CHOP, ROP, etc. and will gain advanced skills needed to integrate, remove, isolate, grade and insert asset elements. Students will also undertake production projects to develop expertise with importing attributes, casting and dynamic simulations. This course exposes students to professional standards, through learning in a production studio under the supervision of experienced visual effects artists.

This simulated project environment will expose students to professional practice situations including participating in project progress reports, understanding and developing client requirements and delivering an industry-standard project within agreed timeframes. Upon completion of this course, students will have developed a clear understanding of professional practice in the visual effects industry, and will be employable on a global scale, equipped with a unique and sought after skill set.

Working alongside qualified visual effects artists at RSP's studio, you will immerse yourself in the world of visual effects when you embark on this intensive 12-week graduate certificate.

This intensive 12-week graduate certificate will immerse you in a simulated studio environment where you will:

  • learn key digital asset development techniques
  • learn how to create 3D visual effects such as explosions, water effects and clouds, as well as procedurally generated environments such as cities, beaches and forests
  • learn how to use computer generated lighting applications
  • gain theoretical knowledge, skills and techniques needed in professional practice
  • join in Rising Sun Pictures company meetings and events
  • produce a finished show reel of screen shots
  • work with Rising Sun Pictures’ recruitment team to professionalise your resume and reel
  • You will also develop an understanding of current trends, technologies and professional practices, ensuring you graduate industry-ready.


  • Application Requirements:
    Completed 3 year Bachelor Degree at a recognised higher education institution in VFX or Media Arts
    or
    Completed a relevant discipline or Advanced Diploma in Screen and Media or equivalent from an accredited registered training organisation
    or
    Relevant industry experience as deemed equivalent  by the University of South Australia

    All applicants must submit a showreel of their own work and a CV outlining their relevant experience
