ロサンゼルスのビバリーウィルシャーホテルでの 2017|2018年アカデミー賞科学技術部門において、サー・パトリック・スチュワートが、SideFX の Kim DavidsonとMark Elendt をステージに招待、Houdini ビジュアルエフェクトおよびアニメーションシステムの創造と開発に対しアカデミー賞オスカー像を贈呈しました。
20年以上に及ぶ絶え間ない革新により、Houdini はプロシージャル手法の力を VFX アーティストに提供、自然現象、破壊、その他のデジタルエフェクトを映画スクリーンに再現するための業界標準となりました。

同授賞式において、サー・パトリック・スチュワートは、SideFX の Jeff Lait、Mark Tucker, Critin Barghiel そして John Lynch には、Houdini ビジュアルエフェクトおよびアニメーションシステムのデザインおよびアーキテクチャへ寄与に対し、アカデミー賞科学技術部門賞を贈呈しました。
Houdini のダイナミクスフレームワークとワークフロー管理ツールは、自然現象、破壊、その他のデジタルエフェクトを映画スクリーンに再現するための業界標準となりました。
