Hello all,

I just downloaded Houdini Apprentice on the recommendation of a friend. It seemed to install alright, but once I opened it up and tried to create a cube, I got:

FATAL ERROR: Segmentation Fault

This happened whether I created it by hitting enter or by left clicking. I tried some of the other objects on the create toolbar, and the strange thing was that it crashed for all of them except the sphere and the tube.

After reading through some of the requirements and other posts online, I am not really sure what's going on at all. Here are my system specs:

Windows 7 64bit
8GB RAM
i7 Q820 processor
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics card (x2, and my drivers are up to date)
Houdini Apprentice 12.5.376

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated, as I would really like to get started on diving into working with Houdini.

I'm having the same problem, except when I switch viewport I get that error and Houdini always crashes. I can create stuff but not change viewports.

win 7 64bit
8gb ram
i5 quad
AMD 6970

Fixed it by reinstall houdini into Program Files (x86) instead of Program Files….

I just tried that, but it is still giving me the same error. I dual-boot with ubuntu and was able to get it working on that, so at least its something of a work around to let me get started in Houdini. I still would have liked to get it working on Windows, but I can't seem to find anything that might fix it…

I'm having the exact same problem with Apprentice. As soon as I drop any geometry from the shelf into the viewport, I get a segmentation fault.

Thanks for your response. I just submitted the bug using the form with the subject “'Houdini Apprentice Edition crashing when using shelf tools”.

Just in case it helps anybody: After a little back and forth with SideFX support I installed more recent Graphics Drivers and that seemed to have helped.
