just found a new forum tool called discourse,

it is very very nice, also gives you hints of similar forum postas when creating a new one (assisting with duplicates) and many other very slick features.

so might be interesting

I would like to see a Python support forum added to the list of forums. As the user base grows I would expect that more users, like myself, will be diving into python. Having the questions floating around in various forums, as they are now, does not help them get answered quickly if at all.

Just creating the slot on this board is not enough, however. For this to actually work SideFx would need to assign a moderator who actually has the knowledge to answer most python questions. Or at least offer guidance to solutions.

You could model this after the BlenderArtist [blenderartists.org] coding forums. Break it down for python, hscript and vex. Also having a forum for support on released HDAs might be nice too.

Absolutely agree.
The BlenderArtists site is a good model.
Personally I enjoy http://www.cgsociety.org/ [cgsociety.org] as well, but it may be a tad to flashy…

+1 for simple, fast, mobile, no Flash.

No Video on the background (toggl.com, or the Unity example above, terrible!)

For the love of God none of the stupid “scroll forever to get one tiny piece of info” pages.

examples of awfulness:

http://www.piccsy.com/investors/ [piccsy.com]
https://webflow.com/ [webflow.com]
http://45royale.com/ [45royale.com]

We're, for the most part, professionals with limited time. We want the info we want fast, succinctly and without carpal-tunnel inducing wheel scrolling.

I get that you need something flashy (no pun intended) for those new to Houdini etc. I personally never go to the front SESI page anyway, so if the main page is vacuous but I can link directly to what I want (and those pages are simple and info-efficient) then I don't care too much if the front page is silly.

Here's my list of recommendations in the order of my priorities :

1. It should be fast, definitely no flash, no weird javascripts that slow things down.
2. It should be functional and accessible. Hard to navigate, hard to access content is useless. Users should be able to access any part of the web site easily.
3. It should have minimalistic, clean and beautiful typography. It makes all the difference in the world. If we are reading it, the rules of typography applies. Please hire a strong designer for typography.
4. It should have HDPI support. More and more devices use high-dpi recently and it will be all HDPI in the near future.
5. It should have responsive design so that it is resolution independent and can work on any device and look good on any device. New web technologies allow this, again, please hire a strong designer.

It'd be nice if it were easier to copy and paste links to exchange files (or just discontune exchange entirely and move things over to Orbolt rather than fragmenting the asset database). There's been a good number of times I click on something, share the link, and that link just takes you to the search page instead of the actual item I'd clicked on.

My no.1 biggest gripe with the current state of things is that images are not rescaled to keep the width of threads to a consistant size.

Rescaled and then clickable if you want to see them in full size.

EDIT:
Would also be nice with some better category's like for Modelling, Simulating, Rendering, Python, Particles, etc..
