With Houdini apprentice V7, I was able to run “sesictrl -I key” with my
userid on RHEL WS 3.

I didn't find V8 build for WS 3, and downloaded V8.0.474(redhat 9), sesictrl -I only work with root user. Has houdini changed the license management scheme? Does v8 build for redhat9 work on WS3?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes there were a few changes done to the sesictrl and licensing, but none of them shoul d have affected the ‘sesictrl -l file’. My guess is that the file (or parent directories) permissions do not allow non-root to write such file. Possibly, also sesinetd -M mask forbids the sesictrl process to instruct it to start the log.

Thanks for the reply.

We have Houdini V7, V8 installed on the same workstation.
I (as non-root user) can sesictrl -I key_info with V7, but not with V8.
The permission has not been changed and any user can write
to the log/licenses folder.

V7 does not require /usr/lib/sesi/licenses needed for V8,
only root can create /usr/lib/sesi/licenses with sesictrl -I key_info.

The error I got is
Server bobcat Access denied for operation
Error with operation

Any help is appreciated.
