This thread is interesting,

After posting that Im looking for an updated system
I decided to try both scenes on my current system.
Which is sort of an old system and the numbers really surprised me.

According to the Intel Ark your CPUs have 14 cores each for a total of 28.

Are you sure you have quoted the correct specification for your workstation?

very interesting results in this topic. I'm also waiting for threadripper gen 3 to update my pc and will be on windows platform. I'm sure things will get better by that time but wonder if you had time to check coreprio (https://bitsum.com/portfolio/coreprio/)

I'm getting 1m44s in Linux, with an older 16-core 1950x, no OC.
What is your ram speed?

I got 2m 10s on my 1950x stock.

ram is 64Gb running 2400mhz, i know these cpus can get allot of boost with faster ram.

Your 1950X is using Linux or Windows? I'm trying to quantify rendering performance differences between both . I have seen about +20% performance difference in favour of Linux in my first (admittedly superficial) tests, and that's a great difference to take into account for specific projects.

Yes, Linux will perform roughly 15% faster than Windows, sometimes more depending on how much bloat is running on the Windows machine. You can tune Windows to be faster by turning a lot of stuff off though, but Linux always gives you a faster render using identical hardware.

I'm not saying which is better, just objectively observing an existing situation. No OS war implied!

This is pretty important. I've seen machines so crippled by middleware that it takes 2~5min to open a hipfile that would open instantly at home, on much slower hardware. Problem is worse with Windows10 as it doesn't do a clean install by default.
