Convolving geometry

Hi,
Does anyone have a general solution for how to do a 2D convolve on geometry? Specifically, I'm trying to sharpen features (but I'd like to use an arbitrary convolution kernel). My approach so far is to (unsuccessfully) bring $TY into COPs (mapping uv to the 2d image), run the convolve COP on the pixels, and then reset the point positions via a pic() function. But given that I'm having some trouble bringing TY into COPs, I haven't gotten particularly far yet!
I saw the Smooth.vfl shader on OdForce, which does indeed to a convolution, but trying to retrofit it to what I want seems convoluted!
