That's odd, it works OK for me. What version of Acroread are you using and on what platform? I recommend at least version 4, that's what these files were built with… I'll try it on Windows too and see if it's got problems (I'm on Linux).

I use version 5.0 and the text was distorted for me too.

also,
Character > skeletal_intro_pt1.pdf is backwards
Modeling > bike_frame.pdf is backwards
> misc_mod_techv4.pdf is backwards
