Hi Guys,

I am new to Houdini. Watched a lot of tutorials, but still can't find a way to project road onto surface / height field.

To be more correct I can protect a road mask or road geometry, and it follows the main surface curvature. Which is fine.

What I want is that roads cross section stays horizontal?

Thank you

just thinking outloud, lets' take the lower road that you've marked, make that ‘level’ if you drive along that road to the T section, the road infront of you MUST go ‘up’ so how does the ‘level’ road there you started from match up with the road going ‘up’ infront of you ? so it must gradually twist from being horizontal to 45 degs when it gets to the T section ?

Project only the center of your road onto the terrain. then extend the sides. Or if you road mesh is already done, project the center of the cross sections, leaving them flat. Then project the heightfield to the road to adapt the terrain.

This tutorial by HoudiniKitchen is just what you want:

I really like these set of tutorials, they're very thorough and clearly explained. Fills a lot of holes if, like me, you've learnt Houdini piecemeal.
- blog: http://www.jerryhat.com [www.jerryhat.com] - usually features Houdini these days
