CV But I really hope they do their sneak peak well like every time! It’s way way way better than those “apple like talk videos” or those “boring half tutorial feature snippets” from the others
yeah weird half tutorials sucks, they should just teach us something from start to finish, instead of browsing through complicated setups and self promoting , it very cheesy and unclassy. do a webinar and have someone thats good teach something cool from start to finish including render etc.
I'd be very surprised if Karma GPU has matured much over this timeframe - GPU engines are literally Mount Rushmore difficult to code, especially if SideFX is rolling their own kernels and not adopting RTX/Tensor technology.
But from the email leak, a major version bump is well earned - there seems to be alot of features coming next month.

For the uneducated eye the sneak peeks they've spoken of or shown one or two years ago seemed to have gotten quite far. But as I said, that's just a superficial impression from the outside. The reality probably will reflect something like with the regular Karma renderer, a long way to go still...
Wait, what did they really? I didn't click the feature link in time to see it. COPs 2.0 would be AWESOME news.
He was kidding. It was officially stated that COPs won't really get any considerable amount of development - if at all.
I missed this about COPs being, in some way, deprecated. Where or when did they stated this?
It came up in some thread somewhere. Someone was wondering if COPS couldn't be turned into something like Nuke. And the answer was no, Sidefx isn't considering anything like that at all. I guess it being very unstable when doing anything more complex already is a big show stopper. And considering what else needed to be done to make it on par with Nuke is more or less equal to the efforts of creating a 3D software.
SideFX should update COPs expecially with the incoming updates on render engine side. There is so much potential in COPs. It can be used as sort of Substance Designer but right now the network is to sloppy and buggy to use.
wanglifu So when will houdini update the UI/UX to modern?Nothing changed in H19.
How do you know that and who knows, H20 seems like a good number for doing those. Unfortunately UI UX changes are not that easy as some might think. Even if they decide to do it it will probably be only reskin of it, nothinh drastic. The thing they could do is to give us better customisation options, customising H interface od just making a shelf is real pain in the butt.
I find Houdini has one of the most technically sound implemented UIs. It's fast, consistent, properly based on Qt and good API/Pyhthon access. (I come from 3dsmax background, so UI wise anything is brilliant compared to that )
It could use some additional features like more control types (2d sliders for example) and maybe some styling/layout tweaks but a big technical overhaul is not really needed imho.

Indeed, it can actually do a lot. I guess the issue is with the outdated looks I think. These days are more about flat look instead of what we have in Hoduini.
