In the houdini H19.5 presentation it was noted that H20 will get a Vulkan viewport. That would also mean a vulkan realtime rendering would be possible.
There is a new karma xpu highlight video:

My guess for the delay is the Sidefx team had too much fun/party at siggraph and now they needed a short rest.

Oh damn...something comparable to Blender`s Eevee would be effin awesome!! For people like me who also do 3D mograph this could mean we won`t need "regular" rendering for certain instances!

Blender eevee used i think openGL 4.3 with the shift to Vulkan in Houdini with MaterialX (GLSL) it looks like a state of the art solution. but we need to wait.

I always get my SideFX videos from their Vimeo channel, usually Vimeo videos are of better quality, plus on their Vimeo channel you can actually download the original videos, that XPU demo looks tons better when you watch the original IMHO, same for the Canary video!

OpenGL and Vulkan are both rendering APIs. In both cases, the GPU executes shaders, while the CPU executes everything else. Vulkan is intended to provide a variety of advantages over other APIs as well as its predecessor, OpenGL. Vulkan offers lower overhead, more direct control over the GPU, and lower CPU usage.

alexeyvanzhula1984Erik WsYou all keep burying Maya, but it just won't die and remains the best software for animation as it always was.
And Maya will be wiped out from its rusted wiggling surface.
As long as Houdini and Blender keep moving forward in animation and all other important areas and we as their users profit from that through a growing feature set I don`t really care what happens with Maya.
