as everyone talking:Unreal Engine 5 is good enough for for filmmaking, it not only has pathtrace render, but also asset making rigging animation and even simulation.
so anyone really used it to make film? how do you feel about it? and if it really good enough, how do the karma redshift and renderman survial?

Sorry, even though I`ve seen some very interesting results the extra hoops needed makes it very uninteresting at least to me.

but this is not a good excuse for why i don't use UE when my boss or customers asked. because everyone saw UE is very fast and the quality is good enough!

If your boss asked you to use UE then just... use UE? Is this really something you need to ask on a forum first?

Raincole said it already. I will add: if you're fine to export each scene you want to render and work in a rather closed system, then just do it, even more if it's a work requirement.

Most people don't use UE for rendering due to many reasons or otherwise nobody would render in Karma & Co. I would also not put my trust into one single company which, as already mentioned, goes a rather closed system approach and has just shown that they will, at any time, change their fees. Of course that may happen with any software, but in traditional 3D softwares there's a way out while Epic wants to lock you into their asset system.

Unreal Engine has been used as the main renderer for an animated series called “Shrouding Heavens”. You can find it on YouTube.

I have long wished that Epic would consider branching off a version of Unreal that is specifically designed with post-production in mind and which conforms to more established standards of DCC pipelines and workflows. There is a lot to like in Unreal, but it is first and foremost a video game engine and not a post production tool for film and TV's needs. Because of that, I have found a lot of its workflow extremely frustrating and overcomplicated for things that really should be relatively simple and fast.

Or just find another "boss" or client and don't change your workflow. Maybe prioritize career security or your own healthy work methods rather than "job" security in a volatile industry?

The fact that you ask for opinions here show that you at least question the idea.

Epic Games plan to start charging for it next year.

if you want to use it for environments and just assets and stuff, it will be fine
if you want to have something with vfx that are more elaborate than a waving flag - prepare mentally
