The node is clunky and barely usable.
Thanks to timofeev_ for sand setup.

And thanks for the motivation to work on automating the asset library importing.

Hello again!
Today I made a World War trench using Layout Lop.
This one had potential, unfortunately, I had only about 5 hours to work on it.
As always, the Layout nodes are marked in red in the screenshot.

Week 2 - Day 4 : Layout!

Layout was a bit painful to use, not gonna lie ; but that's probably because I chose to use the combo with Edit in physics mode. Add to study the extra mile to find how to add an actual simProxy mesh to the assets. Legos pieces were made with a quick procedural setup and I just made myself a few length variations. With more time, I'd have made tubes or cones or whatever.
Also, material variations to the rescue, ahoy!

Modeled a screw, messed w physics in the layout node + edit node combo.
SSS + Transmission Mtlx Shader. Not sure why the image is noisy. 1024 samples with Karma XPU. Ray Bias 0.0001

I don't think Houdini has ever crashed as many times as it did tonight.

Nevertheless, this is my best submission so far:

It is also the first time I've done a shot mainly in Lops and barely did any SOPs work. In fact all I did outside of the Stage context was the character and then the final COPs work.

I used two Layout Lops, one for the foreground books and one for the background towers of books.

This node! It was hard to grasp it and caused a lot of problem. Not sure why I would use this one except for the stack option or for a quick pile of something... Now that I look at my image back, I should have added a pile of book. Was fun nevertheless.

I'm not sure if anyone else encountered the same issue but some of my shaders disconnected after applying physics to the bunch of shapes on the left.

For the day 4 challenge, I brought a few daruma models created in my past personal projects into the scene. I used the component builder to create the assets, scattered them using the layout node.

LookDev, Lighting, Rendering in Solaris with RenderMan inside Houdini.
