When beveling some edges and uncheck RMB > Geometry > Highlight it doesn't remember from one bevel sop to the next. Doesn't seem to be a setting in prefs. Can hardly see how many subdivs I have. WHy highlight the polys when bevel is an edge operation anyway? How does it help to barely see the edges and more importantly how does one disable this for good in goodness name?

It's a flag on the node--it's not saved globally.

I also get very annoyed by the pointless remaining selection, in which nothing is visible.
there is a simple solution - make the edges more contrasting (darker or lighter) on the selection, so that they are clearly visible. But sidefx usually does not stoop to such trifles as the comfort of the user's eyes. So maybe in Houdini 40...

Guys,
I had similar colour / visibility frustrations - but I managed to identify and change a few interface colours to help.
Download the attached file: "3DSceneColors.dg" and drop it into:
Documents > Houdini20.5 > Config
Then restart Houdini.
The file will subtly change the colours for the dark grey colour scheme only.
It won't overwrite anything - if you don't like what it does, simply delete it and you'll be back to standard : )
There is limited control over some of the colours and no documentation that I'm aware of, so the changes were made on the basis of a lot of trial and error. The file changes the colours of:
Poly selection, cook selection and wire frame.
Gnomon and handle Z axis (blue) handles.
Reference and construction plane grids.
- this should help with the selection / subdiv visibility issue you note above.
Please let me know if it helps : )
