Can't paint with Attribute Paint

Hi, pretty dumb question, but I was working with an imported Alembic object, and couldn't paint on it using the Attribute Paint tool. I made sure I had used an unpack + convert node, and nothing happens after hitting the Return key on my Mac Studio's keyboard. I also tried this using the test Tommy model, a sphere and a grid, and just putting an Attribute Paint node after that. Whether I hit Return or not, it just stays grey shaded and never brings up the paintbrush tool. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong here? I've never had this problem before. This is going over a PCoIP connection to a Windows machine, in case that matters.
This is with Houdini Apprentice 19.0.498. Thanks!

Hey,
I had a similar issue once, but not with Alembics.
It was because I previously created the attribute "Cd" Color, in another attribute class, in my case it was primitives, and after that I tried to paint on points with the Paint SOP. But nothing happened.
I just tried this with an Alembic; saved the color "Cd" as a primitive and then tried painting on the points - again, nothing happens.
Try the following: Palace between the Unpack SOP and the Paint Attribute SOP, an Attribute Promote SOP, like in the figure below.

Set Original Name to Cd, Original Class to primitive and New Class to Point. After that try to paint again.

You can also use an Attribute Delet instead of the Promote Sop, with "*" you can delete all attributes - just to see if it is the reason.

Thanks! Unfortunately, it's not even limited to alembics. Just trying to paint on a sphere or the Tommy model doesn't allow the paint tool to become enabled automatically, or after hitting the Enter key. Adding a screenshot to show that even after adding a convert and attribdelete node to Tommy (which shouldn't be necessary to begin with), that it's still not working:
I can't even follow along with the Houdini Masterclass that shows everything working with only a tommy and paint attribute node, without having to do anything else. :-/

I have the exact same problem as you and I'm using Houdini 18.5.351. Is there any update on this?
I simply have a tommy and a paint attribute node and nothing happens when I click enter. I don't see a brush and I can't paint at all. I also get the same error message when I change the attribute in the attribute tab of the attributepaint node.
