this is my first post here.i have saw the basic_stamp tutorial from offical vedio tutorial.i found $PT in a expression.i found it in houdini help document but nothing about $PT meaning,can someone tell me what's short for it?

Welcome! It stands for the point number. If you see an example of a variable in a SOP, you can always hit the “?” button on the upper right of the parameter pane, which gives you the help for that SOP. If you were looking at the Point SOP, for example, in the Point help look under “Locals” and that tells you all the variables that are local to that SOP.
You are correct, though, I don't see any reference to local variables in the general help, that makes it a little hard to track down.
