Unfold developable surfaces and polygons?

Hi!

Is there a good way to unfold/flatten developable surfaces and/or polygon geometry without distorting it? I am experimenting with using Houdini output to build physical models, with parts that can be cut in sheet material.

At the moment I'm using the program Pepakura Designer to unfold .obj geometry exported from Houdini. It works pretty well, but I'd prefer to do it procedurally within Houdini.

If someone has ideas about this I'd be grateful!
