Really, what's mean “Handle follow groups” when RMB on handle->“Handle Parameters…”?

In SOPs if you select a set of primitives and preform an operation on them, like rotate, “Handle Follows Groups” positions the transform handle at the center (centroid) of the group automatically for you. Otherwise it just stays at where ever the pivot's location is set to.

Hm… am I right:
Handle parameter dialog it's for information only? I can change Hanle pivot using ', then “Handle follow group” stay unchecked and when I adjusting handle pivot, Handle Parameters changes. But not vice versa - when I change any in the Handle parameters dialog, nothing really changed…
