Hi,
Is it possible to create my own version of sliders to use inside Houdini? IMO a slider style like this would be more useful (the blue control). It also shows the current value in the range (white line), the range of values, but most importantly allows you to drag anywhere on it to change the value. Clicking on it actually allows you to type into it. Combustion and XSI uses this style (looks wise, behavior wise, I am not sure of XSI's)
In the case of Houdini, this style would be even more useful because you can see the expression used inside the slider much better, due to increased space.
Adobe lightroom uses the same style as Houdini but I think this slows down changing of values. Because you have to click on where the slider marker exactly is, otherwise you it will snap to some other value.
If it's possible, I wouldn't mind making my own.
Hope you guys don't find my ideas offensive or negative because I only mean positive feedback.
Also this style of controls is what I use for my custom tools inside Max, and they really do improve the work IMO, because you just have to “know” which slider to click but not where to click on that slider.
Cheers.
Is it possible to create custom controls for Houdini?
