hi,
i just started to learn houdini and going through tutorials.
on their first lesson, building and breaking columns, my simulation is very unstable. even before the ball hits the columns columns starts breaking and pieces are flying crazy. i redid the same scene several times but still produce the same result.
any advice?
i attached my file.
thanks,
garin

From my experience it always break like 5/10 cm's before the object hits the target, you can solve this by increasing the substeps.
Reason:
When a object is moving at 5 units per frame, and you use 1 substep it will take exactly 1 steps to move 5 units.. so lets say.. when the colliding object is at 3 units you will get a offset of two units because it does not calculate the in-between steps.
I made a short video demonstrating this..
