I am still a bit new to Houdini, but I have learned a fair bit about how to work volumes and was wondering if I might be able to create something like these shockwaves for my final project in my After effects class. It looks like they used FumeFX, Phoenix FD or Krakatoa to achieve these effects, but I would really like to try to create something like this in Houdini. Would it be possible to create stuff like this using volumes and colorizing in After Effects post-render? If not, any ideas on how I should get started?

This is a sprite sheet of another shockwave that Nathan Huang used in his game VFX

Hey man that is a great starting point! I will try to mess with the stuff you made there to try to further replicate the example I am going for. I wonder what I can do to make it look less smoke like. Maybe I will mess with the shader or turbulence.
