I lost a large amount of files that have been recovered to a different directory. Now when I try to open my .hip files I get

Load failed
Error: Invalid .hip file header

Is there a way around this? I havent found anything online (but maybe im searching the wrong key words)

No one knows what it is. It's just a bug. It's so weird.
The only way to do it is to go to your Crash File directory and open Backup file.
Go to File, Open Crash Directory.

What Houdini build version are you using?
that kind of bug should be reported to SideFX.

To follow up on this to anyone that is interested... It appeared that none of the files I recovered were working, not just .hip and .hda files. The recovery process wasn't successful and the files were corrupt. And so we simply carry on
