hi Animators,

I would like to know your opinion about whether you'd like using sequenceBlend for character's facial expression animation or you would prefer using bones to push points of the Geometry for facial animation. What is your personal opinion from your personal experience? Because I am planning to do some facial acting for my motion reel but I still have not decided which method I would be using. Please help with some advice!

thanks

it really depends on the type of face poses you're trying to get…
I find a combination of bones and blendshapes can give good results…

the more realistic you get the more you'll need to use things like wires and muscles…but for cartoony stuff blendshapes are just fine…

You could use bone structures / muscles for the hand animation / lip-sync / locomotion, and use the blending for emotion like overall smile / frown / anger / questioning etc

The blending would be applied before the deformation from the bones / muscles
