The toon character is deprecated now in H14, but you should be able to create it via the TAB menu (instead of from the shelf).

EDIT: The tutorial talks about animating in general. It doesn't go through the steps of how to animate a walk cycle in particular.

I have downloaded Houdini and have made some samples for the online tutorials, I am wondering how easy is to make a walking cycle for a character using Houdini, there is any sample/tutorial online to do that?

I can only see benefits in trying to do it in houdini and although certainly will be harder it will pay of big time in terms of your career.

Harder because there is less documentation on some fronts and some tools may be more complex but your understanding of 3D will be way more valuable and as an artist you will be more valuable too.

My only suggestion is to be realistic with yourself and make sure you can cope with such an endeavour, after all, it is a marathon.
