Indirect Diffuse Darkening When Using Transparent Materials 2025年5月13日10:07
Hello,
I have a question regarding GI and transparent materials.
Is global illumination unable to pass through transparent surfaces?
As shown in the image below, when there's a glass panel in the middle, the areas behind it become significantly darker.
After checking the AOVs, I noticed that the direct diffuse looks almost the same, but the indirect diffuse appears extremely dark—as if it can't pass through the glass at all.
Of course, enabling caustics helps to some extent, but in more complex scenes, it introduces a lot of noise and drastically increases render times, making it impractical.
I'm mainly using V-Ray, and I haven't encountered this issue there—indirect light passes through glass much more naturally.
Is there a way to achieve a similar result?

Extracting the GI Pass Through Refractive Materials 2025年5月4日10:57
When extracting the GI pass, objects with transparent or refractive materials are rendered as black.
Is there a way to extract the GI pass so that the global illumination behind those transparent objects is still visible through them?

Houdini Karma Render Transparent Material Issue 2025年4月30日13:45
wow!!! Thank you, dlee.
I tried what you suggested, and I got exactly the result I was looking for.
I set both the reflection and refraction limits to 8, and I was able to get a clean image with fast render times.
Thank you so much!
