This is a model I'm currently working on, trying to get the last bits done.

The hull plating details are done using a for each SOP that can pull in different kinds of geometry patterns for the details:

Some older shots showing the drydock that will be part of the final shot

Yes, well my standard response to that now is:

Dupku!

Don't you have some old re-runs to watch?

On a more serious note, you mentioned somewhere (maybe at 3dbuzz) that you had been working on a model (or models) in Houdini - when are we going to see some shots?

Modeling is not a problem, it's time and while I don't have it to much I prefer to spend it right now on:

1. I got some new Ideas for tools
2. I'm playing with Python
3. Just bought couple new Python books and Houdini (cmi) and UV(gnomon) tuts to watch. About 30 hours of material to watch.

After I done with that I promise to end models. I just need them for my rigging project so they will be done for sure.

Dupku!

I get my standard answer for this word from your Houdini Models gallery page 3 . You never answered what this picture shows.

Right, I forgot! That's the hand to this guy:

That was a test shot demonstrating that the custom rigging I built was working.

Whoever says Houdini is no good for modeling, I will be pointing them to this thread. Nice as ever Jim. 8)

Here's some updates from this weekend. Built a couple of different test ships to help give the Invincible some scale, all inspired by http://conceptships.blogspot.com: [conceptships.blogspot.com]

Another try

Finally settled on this:

Thanks to circusmonkey showing me some better techniques, I've migrated all the SOPs so that they now output to a common directory and dump the geometry to a file and then just load that up for hte display sop, so the network doesn't need to be recooked. Plus I changed many of the guns into Digital Assets, as well as the fighter ship, and all of the greebles.

The fighter in situ:

Some of the guns now in place

Finally a couple of video links showing the top deck weapons going hot:

Some further updates, added more details. For a sense of scale, each of the windows (the round indents on the tower for example) is about 5-6 feet in diameter.

WOW!!!

Amazing work…

You should have a sort of spoiler warning for someone like me, new to Houdini, to take a look at this at his/her personal risk of insanity… I just felt so tiny…

Some guns appear to have been inspired by the Ion cannon from Star wars… Cool!

Again AMAZING…

Some updates after doing a bit of texture work. This is the outer hull, defense shield generator, and command tower.

Thanks!

Couple of updates to the hull textures, adds a little more variety to the gray color.
