H20.5 - will the MPM solver essentially replace Vellum?

So watching the launch video for the nth time. MPM solver looks pretty amazing…
A few questions:
- Seems very similar in capabilities to vellum, no? When would one use one over the other?
- Can it also do pyro and flip like complex fluids or are those applications better suited for the other solvers?

Thank you

As far as I know, MPM is more like FLIP. Vellum is XPBD, which is a very different kind of solver which is suitable for different use cases. If MPM is going to replace something, it's FLIP, not Vellum.

And do we really need so many H20.5 threads even before its release?

I would assume MPM wouldn't be able to replace FLIP. It has a lot of limitations, such as with things like surface tension.

MPM can also aerate fluids because the background grid prevents particles from settling fully which changes the way you would surface the particles, etc.
