I am excited to present the latest version of my modeling addon for Houdini. The core and tools have been practically rewritten from scratch, with the main focus on moving away from a separate, foreign UI and fully utilizing Houdini’s native features for tool interaction. Modeler now operates based on Houdini's radial menus, hotkeys, and shelf tools.

What's new:

That’s awesome. Does it include all the tools from previous modeller (2022 and 2023) demos like crease, Extrude and Bevel, Quad Flow, Bevel Pro etc.?

Yes, it's a one stop shop for direct modeling.

I wonder how it compares to Modo, Maya, and Blender in each of the modelling steps/areas.

Looks like huge release! I hope there will be longer video demo with quick showing how each tool works. Now its more like teaser and is way too fast (scalpel tool) to grasp whats going on

Anyway i have noticed nice looking and informative icons on shelf and customizable menu via drag and drop! Love it!

As a former maya user, I think current state of the modeler almost feels like modeling in maya. And it no longer feels like application on top of houdini ui. It is native houdini.

For modeling:

With the shelf tools, radial menus and context sensitive menus, it is almost like maya's radial menus (you can even configure it same as maya) You dont have to remember hundreds of shortcuts like in some applications

QuickPivot tool almost the same as maya's pivot tool. Even shorcuts are very similar.

PolyPen is the ultimate modeling tool which has most of multicut and quaddraw tool's functionality combined in one.

Context sensitive menus when combined with radial menus, you almost have every tool at your fingertips and you can configure it as you like easily thanks to the new editor. And you can add your own shelf tools to the menus. Which is actually very nice.

Long story short, with 3 radial menus and context sensitive menus. You got everything maya has with right click menus. Plus it has everything houdini offers. Much more stable and performant.

I didn't retopo in houdini yet, i can't say much about it.

I think with modeler, you can model anything in houdini directly in viewport. Its just the workflow you should change a bit. These are 2 seperete softwares and each has its strength. But really.. houdini is ocean and i will never go back again.

I also have to mention Alexey, the developer of the plugin. Whatever issue i had with the plugin resolved in a couple of hours sometimes in minutes. He is very active in discord and helps people alot. Even helps in areas that are not modeler releated. Which is rare imo. Thanks for this great plugin and thanks to the sidefx staff for this great software.

Hope it helps.

will it work with Houdini 20.0 or will it require 20.5?

This version requires at least Houdini 20.5

Not quite. It's buggy and the UI/UX needs a lot of work. Is he on the right track? Sure, but if you like documentation I'd avoid this product until he figures out that people paying a hundred bucks (or 500 bucks for studio) for a Houdini plugin off Gumroad REQUIRE 'extensive' documentation illustrating multiple procedures and not some vague generalizations posted in a poorly presented manual along with almost no videos of said features outside of marketing. Remember, on Gumroad there are no refunds, friends.

Tough words, but words of caution. Now, some love... Modeler for Houdini is very bright if the tools work flawlessly, the UI doesn't sketch out, and I don't constantly ask myself why I don't just use Blender.

What bugs? I’ve been polishing my product day and night, so don’t start telling me about bugs. What specific bugs? Join our chat, and you’ll hear all about the bugs, convenience, and interface. This is complete nonsense, bordering on hate speech. Only someone who hasn’t tried my $5000 plugin could write something like that.

In the first two days after release, 100 people updated, and not a single negative review. Why would they even need such a bad plugin?

Weird! Modeler 2025 for me feels as if it were included with Houdini. It feels correct and is a joy to use.

Not seeing the same issues the guy above is. And for 100 bucks it’s a damn steal…

Thats strange, hardly any bugs in Modeler overhere, all of the bugs I encounter are Houdini bugs, and theres one around every corner it seems.
And if you find any in Modeler and report it on Discord, it's fixed in no time.

Documentation is a bit sparse, that's true. But if I were you, I'd report the bugs you found.

Coming from XSI modeling in Houdini is like eating soup with a toothpick while dodging bullets , and Modeler is a huge workflow improvement in that regard, you can focus on the modeling instead of the process.

This looks great!! Is it possible to get a demo license? Would be interested in buying the studio license, but would like to test it first.

Congratulations Alexey on the new release!.. After working with the new Modeler for the last couple of days I can say that this feels like a MAJOR release for Modeler. Going from the Launcher menu system to the Radial menu system is going to result in huge speed increases. This also means that everyone can customize the interface to suit their own needs much more easily. This is BIG. And I haven't even TRIED the new tools that have been introduced in Modeler2025 yet! The new Patch tool looks amazing. Modeler is going to be a must have plug-in for anyone doing Retopology in Houdini.. That's for sure. I am looking forward to working with Modeler2025.
