Houdini Main Changelogs

6.1.47

There was a very low level bug in filtering uncovered. With the bug fixed, all filtering throughout Houdini (Halo and Mantra as well) will be affected for all filters except point and box. Images which are filtered typically be "sharper" now. With large blurs, the effect will be quite noticable.

A side effect of the fix is that most filters are more continuous. In mathematical terms, the filters should have C2 continuity. This will be most noticable in texturing used for reflection maps (especially when displacement texturing).

There is an environment control (HOUDINI6_FILTER_COMPATIBILITY) which disables the bug fix for the sole purpose of compatibility with earlier versions of Houdini. Use of this variable is discouraged.

The LSystem SOP's expression language now includes rand(seed) which matches the standard Houdini expression rand(). A quick random number can thus be acquired with rand(i).

LSystems now have an ability to place any general expression in the Rule, Premise, or Context Ignore. This is by using back quotes (`) to escape the expression which is inserted into the relevant string prior to being processed by the LSystem. For example, to get the default LSystem tree to branch, instead of a fixed 3 times, $F times, one could use the rule:

A=!"`strdup($F, "/(360/$F)[B]")`
