Houdini Main Changelogs

6.0.21

Preliminary support for area light sources has been added to mantra. Mantra currently supports line, grid and disk lights. In the current implementation, the light shader will be called multiple times (based on the sample parameter passed in the light object).

6.0.21

Preliminary support for area lights has been added to Houdini. The light object now has parameters to control the shape, size and sampling controls for area light sources.

When rendering with MentalRay, the shapes defined are mapped as follows:

Line Light: A cylindrical light defined along the x axis. The length of the cylinder is specified by the area light size. The radius is 0.001 units.

Grid Light: A rectangular grid of the size specified. The grid is defined in the XY plane in the space of the light.

Disk Light: A disc light oriented in the XY plane. The radius is defined by the size specified.

Sphere Light: The radius of the sphere is defined by the area light size.

Cylinder Light: A tube with a length of 1 unit (in the x-axis of the light source) whose radius is defined by the area size parameter.

Note: All light sources may have scales applied to them on top of the area light size parameter.

Fixed bugs where the pop viewer was not aware of changes in the popnet when it was viewing the subnet. This was a problem since the pop viewer always cooks to the cook node in the popnet.

One seemingly unrelated symptom of this was the yellow reset button not properly working when viewing subnets.

The proto_install program now has command line options to install packages.

The usage is: proto_install -i <install_path> -p <package> where <install_path> is the path to install eg. $HH or $HOME/houdini5.5 <package> is the package name with .inst extension

Examples: proto_install -i $HH -p SOP_PointMap.inst This installs the pointmap sop into the main installation that will be available to all users.

proto_install -i $HOME/houdini5.5 -p CHOP_Puppet.inst This installs the puppet chop into the local user directory that will be available to only the current user.
