I have been trying to convert an alembic hair file from ornatrix but I have lost touch with my houdini skills. It seems in the updates that things just look different.
Does anyone have a screen shot or list on how to convert alembic after importing?
I would really like to get it to a simple format to use in poser/dax renders but I cant seem to get the file i export to show. Its a large file but it seems blank on my imports.

I'm not sure about possibility of exporting hair with Alembic format.
It usually useful for exporting animated geometry via point's cache to other softwares.

however for importing Alembic files to the Houdini , there is not any special method or way.

You should just append a Alembic SOP node and import your Alembic file.
Also you can use File->Import->Alembic Scene …

The only thing is when you import any Alembic file to the Houdini , you should convert this Alembic type to Polygon.

You can do that with setting Load As parameter in the Alembic SOP to Load Houdini Geometry , or using Convert SOP. 8)

Of course I exported Hairs from Maya to the Houdini with Alembic format perfectly , But I had to convert Hair System in the Maya to Curves before exporting :idea:


EDIT: Maybe Ornatrix Alembic Hair Exporter convert them to curve too :?
