I dont get the OpenVDB Grooming Toolset. I have the the strong feeling this is something amazing…

The Draw hair tool creates a vector field using OpenVDB then points are advected through it to create the strands of hair. It provides a better starting point for grooming.

Curious, is this based off of Ashraf Ghoniem's concepts that he employed at Dreamworks and presented at Siggraph 2013? If so, that's freaking awesome..

Incredible release you guys..

as far as I'm concerned, houdini's philosophy is to achieve your creative goals as many ways as possible. We find similarities with other tools in houdini, perhaps with greater advantages and disadvantages, but when the amount is greater disadvantages are lower, and for that and much more, houdini is the best. So, depends largely on how you use the tools creatively the next steep.

what does position based dynamics stands for?

PBD is a thought framework or approach for solving particle dynamics in a stable way. It's SPH with constraints, done the right way
The main idea, approximately, is not trying to solve velocities and impulses, but work on just the point positions. See the papers from Matthias Müller [matthias-mueller-fischer.ch] and Miles Macklin [blog.mmacklin.com] for the details.

Only one day? Can't wait. I have the academic version of 14, and I have to say it really rocks! My indie version needs to match up. I can't go back…
