Is it possible to color liquid based on the colors of an image ?
Yes, you can use color map in shader or attribfrommap at SOP level. Not sure this is what you want.
Not entirely sure what to say, but the volume of liquid as it lands (short birth life) shows as the colors of the source image.
Make sense ?

As if an artist has thrown a bucket of paint onto a canvas.
perhaps an attribTransfer sop that transfers the uvs from a grid that represents the canvas would do the trick
Houdini have a SOP HDA for this named AttribFromMap.
