Over the last year I've been transitioning from Cinema4D to Houdini. I do a lot of multi-layered mograph and VFX that ends up in AE or Nuke for heavy duty compositing.
I don't know how I lived and worked for so many years without Houdini's output system. The fact that I can setup a render node for each “layer” and even give them different cameras is a revelation. Trying to manage individual object passes (don't talk to me about object buffers, they fall short in many ways) layers, cameras, and output in C4D is a sisyphean ordeal at best.
I'm rendering 14 passes right now. They're all going to be the right objects from the right camera angle, and plug into AE without any headache. I can go make lunch and relax for awhile. Houdini is the best.
