G'day All!

Just wondering if anyone has tried Houdini on MacOS Sierra? It's out pretty soon and I'm a bit keen to try it out

(It'd be awesome if SideFx added support for full screen one of these days too…)

I gave OSX 10.12….err, I mean macOS Sierra a go with Houdini 15.5. It installs and runs fine. Sims and renders no probs. Looks good to me!

After upgrading to MacOs Sierra my Houdini stopped working. The old license administrator for Houdini 15.0 does not even start (it exits silently from the dock after a minute or so, before even showing a window), so I installed 15.5.609. Now the licence administrator starts (after a long delay) but it asks me to upgrade the license server (see attached screenshot). The server that is running is

/Library/Frameworks/Houdini.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/houdini/sbin/sesinetd

while “Current” points to the 15.5.609 directory. But still the same behavior…

I had a similar problem after 12.5. If you haven't already, shoot a line to Support and they'll walk you through it. I can't tell you exactly what it was, some local licensing file ended up in the wrong spot or something.
Good luck.

Running 15.5.594 here and it seems to be running fine!
Doesn't seem to have the option to merge windows into tabs which could be cool.
But hey, it's working so that's great

For OS Sierra licensing problems, as a last resort, you could add a mapping to your /etc/hosts file. You just need to add this line to the file:
127.0.0.1 name-of-my-machine.local

PROBLEM:
hmm.. this did not work for me. im getting ‘cannot connect to lisence server’ error

EDIT / FIX:
In the lisence server clicking the ‘Local host’ button fixed this problem.
If anyone know why this worked I would love to know.

Thanks,

J

Hey All

I've had a massive problem since upgrading my MacBook Pro to macOS Sierra. Firstly the license server failed to work when I ran Houdini 14.0 with the error "Cannot connect to the license server on .local". As Im only trying to run the Apprentice version, I figured it was time to just update to the latest Houdini 15.5.632. That installed fine however it is so slow its unusable. It takes a full minute to simply drop down a geometry object in a new scene, then another minute to go inside the new object, another minute to select the file node in there, another minute to put down a circle sop, and another minute to change the scale, etc etc etc.

These steps were instantaneous pre-Sierra so Im wondering if anyone else has similar problems or a way to fix it as there is no point trying to use Houdini when it is this slow. I haven't seen any negative effects with other software since the update, and even though its an older machine, I don't want to have to upgrade just to run an apprentice version of Houdini.

I've put the specs of my machine below but if anyone has any suggestions on how to get it back running the way it was before the os update that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
Steve

If it was working okay before, maybe revert back to El Cap. I decided to in the end because there turned out to be a lot of little Wacom issues in sierra and I haven't missed it at all

it's a plain text file: /etc/hosts

you can get hostname for the computer by typing hostname in the terminal

For me (on Sierra running the latest Houdini Indie Version) all the above doesn't work.
Render attempts end in getting stuck on “Generating Scene…” and a exit code “3”.
