been having this issue only with 16.5,

zooming in the viewport is extremely fast(rotating around objects is normal). is there a way to slow it down or a thickbox to make it go to normal speeds?

Hold down Shift when zooming, or you can reset the pivot (Space+Z) on the geometry you're zooming in on.
