I tried installing the latest production build (8.0.474) but had no luck getting the key installed. Everytime I launched Houdini from the Start menu, it would connect to license server & ask if I like to automatically install a non-commercial license. I click on the link , accept the EUA - then in a bit it comes back saying the licenses were successfully installed. I choose to run Houdini and whoops … it starts asking about the license again … and around and around we go.
So, noticing someone else on the forums was having problems, I decided to try the latest build (8.0.506). So, I did the following:
- uninstalled all versions of Houdini
- downloaded & installed 8.0.506
- rebooted
- checked to make sure both services up & running
- made sure there was a Cwindows/keys folder
- connected to Internet
- ran Houdini from Start menu and boom … same problem

Do I need to install manually? If so, what's the webpage to get the key? Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT:: should have mentioned that I'm running WinXP 32bit
Apprentice licensing problems too

The problem for rdms it looks like was this:
*** WARNING *** - No valid server lines found
Two license keys were installed but the server license was never installed. Was the license file manually created?
Just to be clear …
The license file (Cwindows/keys/license) has been there ever since I first installed the Apprentice Edition back in early ‘04. I’ve never had any problems before updating the NC license.
However, this time around, I had to manually do this. I renamed the original license file (license -> license.old) then copy/paste lines from the webpage into a new license file.
Edward, the server license is the first entry in the license file, right? This is what I see …

It's very strange that the diagnostics didn't see this. Anyways, it's working and that's all I care
