Man, what a month!
Huge props to SESI for the all of this. I think everyone will agree that this was an exhilerating experience.
It came out of nowhere and was very well organized and presented. And the nice highlight videos are the icing on the cake!
Thank you for reigniting the spark, that made us all fall in love with the 3d world in the first place.
And to all of you mad lads, who made it through: You f****ng rock!
It was pure joy to go through the entries every day and just be in awe of the ideas and creativity you put on the table.
Houly should totally become a thing like Inktober or Movember btw.
Q: “What's up with Kevin? He's acting weird and barely sleeps. Is he doing drugs?”
A: “No it's Houly. He'll be back to normal next month.”
Edit: I just noticed that Houly has gathered more posts in a month than Work in Progress in 11 years

What a month! This is the first time in years I've had the opportunity to play with Houdini as an artist instead of as a tools guy, it's been awesome and I've learned so much. I'm blown away by all the amazing entries.
Thanks SideFX, I'm eager for HOULY 2021

woohoo! That was nuts. Thanks sidefx and everyone who participated It's been a blast to be a part of this. I explored a lot of stuff in houdini i hadnt touched much before including rigging, animation, lots of character modeling, cops, mops, octane, and more. I think after this challenge I'm finally ready to cut the other DCCs out of my personal workflow and just use houdini for all things 3d!
Here's the link to my final entry that I just posted the animated version of. https://vimeo.com/443864098/f8f856dc67 [vimeo.com]
Cheers

What can I say that has not been said already?!
To recap:
- Great organization, big props to our organizers!
- Fantastic entries, big props to our amazing artists!
- Great learning opportunity!
On a personal note:
I think a whole month is just too crazy. I had life, family and work to deal with and it was altogether too much. I almost missed the last day, because I fell asleep from exhaustion…
I would prefer one theme over one weekend, every month or so. Something a bit more manageable.
I would also require hip file inclusion on submission. XD
There is also a significant bias towards pretty pictures versus tool demos. So I think those should be separate categories and judged differently.

Hi!
This challenge gave a lot of experience in Houdini.
I was able to learn a lot of tools and techniques that I hadn't used before. This is unbelievable!
I am very grateful for this challenge!
A lot of strong specialists took part. And I am very happy that I was even able to take third place in one of the days!
Thank you very much SideFX!

What a challenge! Definitely playing catch-up most of the time but it was worth it!
The final post which includes all of the assets into one (sort of) diorama:

I still expect to do a few changes on this.
Thanks SideFX!
