That H19 reveal was so freaking awesome! I'm most excited about KineFX, CharacterFX and MoCap stuff.

That was insane…only downside is that we need to wait 10 more days to get our hands on it. XD

Well, with the Arnold 7 launch, it reminded me, that Houdini only has partial NanoVDB support, I wondered if SideFX improved NanoVDB support in H19?

Missing in 18.5 is any animation exports, especially multiple named clips/takes. As far as I can tell, it only exports static meshes. I use animated GLTF files to three.js files quite a bit. It seems that version 19 might support this, which would be fantastic. If anyone can find the animations export setting for GLTF in 18.5, I'd be pretty jazzed.
Houdini in 18.5 can not export animated meshes. If you look at the 19 sneak peak on the features it is listed that animation, lights and camera have been added to the GLTF exporter.

NanoVDB is still being developed and hasn't made it into the main OpenVDB distribution yet so it's going to be hard for any application to expose it fully till that happens.

Watching the View Presenter struggle to change materials on the Lab scene is a grim warning about USD workflows - in my opinion.

I cant think of a a scenario where I dont want to be able to change a material on an object. I totally understand the "non-destructive" nature of USD, but, material assignment and instance vs real rules?

It just doesnt sit right with me: How can you effectively present that in the UI as to why the USD prim material cannot be changed and advise the user how to do what they are attempting? At a minimum, the user is gonna have to go and browse the web and FIRST find the rule that's preventing them from changing the material on an instance, which is hard in and of itself.

The best way to learn anything is to start simple and just keep going and raise the bar until the program starts to click.

The best free introduction to Houdini is the one by Hipflask IMHO, I downloaded the whole thing and I keep it as a reference, it's like having the Houdini docs in video format, very thorough!

Just to add, from personal experience, that Hipflask paid courses are even better to get a solid ground on Houdini. Best begginners resource I have found in years about Houdini.

I have to agree on this. It's a great investment for anyone wanting to get into Houdini. No Wrangle nodes were used.

Best advice I got on this was to focus on SOPs.
Focus on learning the basics you'd do in any other app using SOPs.
Try and ignore any dynamics untill you are comfortable with usual 3D basics, and it can make life easier if you start to understand a bit of VEX, but appreciate it depends on the individual.
