I have RS installed and can render with it outside of solaris but once in solaris i cant change the renderer for some odd reason. any ideas on this not making any sense.

I believe you need to add an entry to your houdini.env file similar to the following:

PXR_PLUGINPATH_NAME=“C:/ProgramData/Redshift/Plugins/Solaris/19.0.383
