@brians, I report back as promised.
Yesterday 525.85.12 drivers were uploaded to Debian Testing repository, so I loaded up the test scene and it no longer crashes on Crag.

FWIW I had this same issue, (Karma / optix renders failing with "cuda error illegal adress") on Windows with a GTX390, Houdini 19.5.534. Upgrading to Houdini 19.5.569 and Nvidia Studio Driver 631.61 made the issue go away.

We are experiencing XPU crashes on the farm with both older and latest drivers

Houdini_20.0.653

NVIDIA driver version 537.58 and
NVIDIA driver version 551.61

GPU 0: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 @ 1695MHz (compute 8.6) with 24575MB (23780MB available) (NVLink:0)

Can you please repost this error? using inline code formatting? (or even a screenshot will do)
