In 20.5 some windows don't appear to be affected by the "Global UI Scale" or "Icon Size and Layout" preferences.

Specifically the popup view when middle clicking on a node and also the help documentation. We can use cmd + and cmd - to increase/decrease the font size but it goes away each restart.

Is there a way to persist the larger fonts?

Also struggle with this, I hope it will be fixed in next builds.

I had to give up the 4k monitor and switch to 2k, on which the Houdini interface looks fine.

Which OS and version of Houdini are you using? The info panel seems to respect the global UI scale on my Rocky Linux machine.

The node info window and help pane are both scaled by the global UI scale. If it doesn't seem to be working for you, please file a bug and explain what you're doing, what you're seeing, and what you'd expect to see. Note that you have to restart Houdini for a new UI scale to take effect.

Persisting the zoom level is on the to do list

Seems fine on Windows as well, but MacOS not so much. Same monitor same resolution same UI scale.

Can try to file a bug soon.

Here's what I did:

  1. Downloaded 20.5.327 for Mac.
  2. Started Houdini, opened General User Interface prefs, changed Global UI Scale from 2 to 3.
  3. Quit Houdini and restarted it so the scale pref would take effect.
  4. Put down a node and showed the node info window for it. The contents of the info window were 1.5x bigger.

So it seems to work for me. If it's not working for you, please file a bug with steps to reproduce the problem.

This worked for some nodes (e.g. geometry nodes) and looks so much better!

Some nodes use a different UI element than the rest. For example a pyro solver or smoke object don't have the "new style" info menus and don't take UI scale into account. These can't be increased with cmd + either. Are these using QT and is there an environment variable that can change the scaling? No luck from our end on this so far. The reason this matters is because on high resolution (4k or more) monitors it is quite tough to read these popups at all.

The help also doesn't seem to use UI scale, but we can still use cmd + to increase size.

Just want to add that increasing the font in the help works, but doesn't even persist when clicking links. It reverts back to the small unreadable font after each click to a new page.

Rough sailing for new users. M1 Max... 5k2k display.

Again it's not taking the DPI scale into account at all.

The help is properly scaled on High DPI Mac for me, and for most people, so maybe there's something strange about your setup. If it's not working for you, please file a bug with your setup and steps to reproduce.

If anyone else has this issue on MacOS... as a temporary workaround it is possible to open help in Safari http://127.0.0.1:57753/ [127.0.0.1]

Font and links work like you would want
