Selected geometry components are rendered on top of geometry

When I'm selecting geometry components in any viewport lighting quality mode except for "No Lighting" mode, for some reason selected components that are obscured by geometry are drawn on the foreground. With enough components selected it quickly turns into a visual mess, making further selection quite difficult. Is it possible to prevent this from happening?

Okay, this looks like some kind of a random video glitch. I reopened Houdini and it seems to be fine now. It might also have something to do with viewport camera's auto "Near/Far Clip Planes", which never worked for me too well.
