From a standpoint of animating characters, one major hole I see in Houdini's toolset is fur and hair. I've heard it mentioned that you can do fur, but I've never seen any examples. And I have heard nothing concerning long hair.
Keep in mind that I know that fur is certainly possible (see “The Wild”), but my studio has no TDs that can write their own shaders and tools, so we have to rely on off-the-shelf options.
I don't believe Shave and a Haircut works for Houdini, so are there any available hair solutions out there? And, more importantly, can a “stoopid” artist use the tools without having to be a TD?
All in all, houdini is looking amazing. Keep up the good work!
Long hair and fur solution for Houdini?

All the components for fur and long hair are there without writing anything, but there is currently no “auto hair” tool, and unfortunately, no training either. However, I'm sure that will be addressed!
For Fur, check out the Examples on the Fur SOP for starters. There is a Mantra example on rendering fur in there somewhere too.
For long hair, check out the Wire Solver examples in DOPs. You basically then use those as guide hairs into the Fur system.
For grooming, the Paint Normals is a good place to start, as well as the Shaved example in the Fur SOP.
Cheers,
Peter B

Please let there be a section on hair styling, like creating kink and frizz setting to make an Afro or long and short wavy hair.
Also a method on how to make a beard and eyebrows with color settings.
If you did that I’d be all over Houdini like a cheap suit!
Thank you,
