Hi guys
first of all, thanks for the great tutorials.
I do all my video conversion in linux with ffmpeg, I do image secuences to dv avi, h264 mov, small movs for revisions, ogg to any format etc.
and the thing is FAST!!!, even with HD footage
I know is a command line utility but is actually very very easy
example:
ogg to h264 mov
ffmpeg -i out.ogg -vcodec h264 test.mov
image sequence to small mov for review etc
ffmpeg -i imageSeq.%04d.png review.mov
image sequence to DV AVI
ffmpeg -r 29.97 -i myLOGO_V02.%04d.png -target ntsc-dv myLOGO_V02.dv
very usefull if you need to deliver DV AVIs.
here's a bunch of info for any flag
http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC5 [ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu]
is actually very very nice

thanks Michael
I check out character picker, although I had to search for it in my file system since I couldn't find anything in the help docs.
Is this documented? is kinda what I want to do and is actually a very cool tool
thanks again and I kinda found a way to select objects with this
opset -p on /obj/toon_character1/spine/ctrl_cog /obj/toon_character1/spine/ctrl_chest1
I'll test this and share the results later
thanks again

wow that is so great, you can tweak every aspect of that, that is so cool
now the other thing I need to do.
I'm rigging a test character, and I want to execute a command in the select script property of the null control, I need the two things
1 - when I select the null activate the rotate tool or move tool, no matter what tool is currently active
2 - When I select the null, it trigger a command so select another null
what I'm trying to do is a nice interface where you can select the different parts of the rig.
again, thank you guys, you been very helpful

Hi
Maybe this been asked before but I could not find anything.
Is it posible to echo commands like in maya's script editor, you know, you click on create sphere and in the script editor show the MEL commands that generate the sphere.
If this is not possible, how can I find out the commands for example, of the move tool, rotate tool, etc
this might be very simple but I can't find it
thank you

I have The magic of houdini book, and I still use it to do stuff on H9, I find sometimes the only big difference is that I do a lot less steps than before, houdini still works like it did before, I've seen people that hide all the NEW interface and it actually looks like H8 again.
so, the book is still a very nice way to learn houdini, also a nice way to learn is EXPLORING the examples that come with the software, there's a lot of them, in houdini, having a scene file is so great, is almost like reading someones recipe, you just need to follow the network and you can almost read the creator mind, find cool surprises and understand a loooot of stuff, you also get a lot of ideas, and cool new way to use some nodes.
Houdini works a lot like my brain and I consider houdini not as a 3d app, but as a 3d OS.
The first thing is to not be afraid of houdini, go on, try everything, nothing will break, is all software, you can just start a new scene.

Hope you like it, is 1920 x 1200, if you like it and want another resolution, just ask and I'll do it for you.
