Just to bump this topic one more time. Is there a way to access the openvdb histogram function in houdini without c++ / hdk ?

Had the problem too with the upgrade to Houdini 16. I guess it comes from the mixture of licensed houdini and apprentice. I owned houdini up to 15.5 but now I am just testing houdini 16 in apprentice mode parallel to my commercial old licenses. My suspicion would be that the installer of houdini 16 apprentice uninstalled the license server.
I had to reboot once and the sc create HoudiniServer binpath= c:\windows\system32\hserver.exe
worked . Before reboot windows would claim that the hserver is marked for deletion. and sc create would not work.

Technical Discussion » VDB match Volume

Thats what I am doing but the I am having a hard time converting polygons to vdb and converting vdb to volume, then those volumes never match the ones created by isooffset. I am looking for a way to do that with voxel perfect matching. If the values change a bit I dont care, but the voxel size and voxel positions ( the borders of all voxels ) should match.

I need to match a VDB volume created with vdb from polygon to match a houdini volume created with isooffset.
So far they differ a lot. I need a work around to speed up / avoid isooffset because it is sooo slow.
The exact voxel positions and dimensions are important, so that the ‘borders’ of the ‘voxel cubes’ match exactly.
I attached my current tests / ideas in a hip.
Or is there another way to speed up isooffset ? vdb from poly seems to be about 40x faster.

To clarify i need something like an interactive rig for a hat which has to slide on the head on a bald man, but not as an offline simulation, but an interactive tool.

I need to stick a concave object on the surface of a convex one ( ellipsoid ) without intersection. the coordinates of the concave one on the ellipsoid should be animate-able and the heading of the concave one too. How can I do this without physics in sop context ? I guess I would need something like collision detection in sops. ATM i am trying to use the ray sop, rivet and sticky but they dont really deliver what I am after. Anyone done something similar ?
Technical Discussion » Select P.y==$YMIN

Thanks a lot for the tips. Much more elegant than my construct.
I came up with this VEXpression
But I had to create the attribute y_min before the wrangle node, because I could not query YMIN from input_x of the wrangle node. How would this be done ? How could I address variables or attribute from a certain input of the wrangle node ?
I came up with this VEXpression
float tol = chf('tolerance');
if (@P.y < (@y_min + tol))
{
@group_minimum = 1;
}

I want to group all points which Y value equals $YMIN .
I am trying with a wrangle sop but cannot get it to compile.
Any suggestions on how to do that ?

Figured that one out too .. found the Add ID Attribute in the flip solver and used @id % 10 == 0 as grouping pattern.

Figured it out, but still have a problem.
With filter expression $PT % 20 in the group sop i can remove every nth point in a flip simulation, but why does the pointnumber of each particle change each frame ?
I want to decimate the particles in a flip simulation without too much flickering.

I guess some kind of $PT modulo N but I cant find any fitting examples ..

I am searching for a way to emit flip fluid from flip fluid.
The effect I am reaching for is that I have a certain amount of fluid sometime in the simulation and from that point on I want to multiply the amount of existing fluid like the current fluid is multiplying.
Any ideas ? ATM I am quite lost.

I have a flip fluid container and I am trying to add a sink object (shelf) in H15.5 and I always get the errror message no fluid selected for operation. I the manual a popup is mentioned which does not pop up in my case ( is the manual out of date ? ) What has to be selected for the shelf tool second parameter to work for a flip simulation ?

Just had the problem again with houdini 15.5.632 and windows 10 x64.
Again the sc create HoudiniServer binpath= c:\windows\system32\hserver.exe saved me ..
Its really cursed. Whenever time is short houdini licensing stops working …

Sorry I didnt have a csh installed. But I still have a problem.
test.hipnc does not seem to be a .hip file.
export PATH=$PATHopt/hfs13.0.1067/bin/ hexpand ./test.hipnc
